Mauricie Lac Castor and Trembles waterfalls

Aux Berges du Lac Castor is a large resort located on the shore of Lake Castor. The resort offers many accommodation options along with a sandy beach and a wooden deck. Canoeing, 30km of hiking trails, playground, beach volley, petanque, BBQ grill – all part of the entry fee. We went there only for a few hours for a dip in the water and relaxation time before heading to see the beautiful Trembles waterfalls, less than 10 mins away by car.

Walk towards the ‘Accueil’ house to pay the entry fee and you will feel like you are part of a hippy community. Near the beach, you will find a playground, sandpit, beach volley, petanque, BBQ grill and the cafe. There is an option to take a canoe (included in the entry fee) just next to the wooden deck.

Although we planned a walk around Lake Castor, due to time limitation, we decided to head for our second stop of the day. We drove only 6 minutes to ‘Le Baluchon’ – éco villégiature’ for lunch and a walk.

This unique hotel is nestled in the heart of a green meadow and offers so many activities. Simple hiking trails, a walk on a wooden deck to reach a beautiful viewpoint of Trembles waterfalls, fieldstone windmill, chapel, horse riding, spa, canoeing and swimming.

A short walk from the parking area, you will arrive directly at the cafe. We ate at the ‘Au bout du monde eco-café so we did not need to pay the entry fees. We did two short walks to reach fantastic views. First, a walk of about 15 minutes, to see the windmill and the chapel. We did not do a full hike, therefore, there is no specific indication for a trail name. Walk on the path half-circling the outdoor sitting area of the restaurant. The gravel path will lead to a small wooden bridge. Once you exit the bridge turn left and you will see the windmill, and from above, you will see the chapel in the valley. We did not reach it and continued back towards the restaurant.

Once you are back at the cafe-restaurant, walk towards the horse stables and you will see signs indicating towards the hotel and the waterfalls. Pass the bridge and turn left to view the river streaming from above. Turn back and walk straight on a long wooden path which will reach directly to the falls. From the wooden path, you will see the hotel on the left.

We truly enjoyed visiting the region of Mauricie and we hope to go back to try a few of the walking trails around. We headed back to Montreal that evening.
