I would not drive for this factory especially from far but if you are in the area and looking for a fun hour, hour and a half, this is the place to go. The tour leaves at least every 30 minutes in small groups.
7 minutes by car nearby the factory is a nice big shop of Cold Hollow Cider Mill which is worth combining with the Ben & Jerry visit. This shop offers Vermont produce (apple cider, maple syrup, jams, cider donuts) and branded Vermont merchandising. In front of the shop is a small and very tasty simple restaurant (the Barn) along with a tasting room for local Vermont winery.
